You may not understand about reading tabs , which is entirely different from sheet music. But it is the most easiest way for writing songs even it has its own limitations.
In guitar tabs, there will be total six lines ,which represent six strings of Guitar ( E A D G B E)
E----------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------
G----------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------
E A D G B E (open notes of each string is used for identifying the string)
Bottom line represents the thickest string(ie sixth string) and the topmost line represent thinnest string(ie first string) of guitar
In these lines there will be numbers which represents the note on the fret board which has to play..
E----------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------
G----------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------
A---0--2--3-----------------------------
E----------------------------------------
here the number '0' represent open string (ie A note on fifth string) and numbers '2' & '3' represents 'B' & 'C' respectively . so you has to play the A note first & then move to B & C
let check another illustration:
E-------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------------
G---------0----2----0---2----4---2---0---
D------------------------------------------
A---3--------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------------
here you have to play third fret of 5th string and then move on to 3rd string with a open note in it('0') and then to 2nd fret &so & so & so........
okay, let's try the song which most of the musicians first ever experienced with a smile of a great victory..
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
E-------------------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------------------------
G----------0--0--2--2--0------------------------------
D-----------------------------3--3--2--2--0--0--------
A---3--3-----------------------------------------3-----
E-------------------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------
G--0--0------------------0--0----------------------
D-------3--3--2--2--0---------3--3--2--2--0-----
A---------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------
E--------------------------------------------------
B--------------------------------------------------
G---------0--0--2--2--0--------------------------
D--------------------------------------------------
A---3--3------------------------------------------
E--------------------------------------------------
Move on.....
